HOW TO MAKE AN ESPRESSO

The espresso can be said to be the backbone to all the different types of coffees that are available today as they all consist of the “espresso”, from the “cappuccino” to the “latte”. The espresso is made up from a blend of Arabica and Robusta roasted beans, with a shiny, dark oily surface.

  1. Fill the filter with 7grams of grinded coffee and make sure that the surface of the coffee is levelled, and tamped.
  2. Brush off any coffee on the side, or on the top of the filter
  3. Load the filter holder onto the group.
  4. Place a warmed espresso cup. Start the machine.
  5. A perfect espresso always has a  hazel  “crema”

NOTE:   less than 20 seconds will produce a weak espresso. Over 30 seconds will result in a burnt bitter espresso.

HOW TO MAKE A CAPPUCCINO:
A cappuccino is basically an espresso with frothed milk.

  1. Get a proper espresso in a large cappuccino cup
  2. Insert the steam wand into the jug which should contain semi-skimmed milk.
  3.  Keep the frother tip close to the top of the milk, inserted on an angle. This is very important.
  4. When frothed milk temperature is about 60 degrees, you are ready to pour to create a slight dome.
  5. Wait until the frothed milk settle
  6. Now you are ready to pour the frothed milk in the cup already containing the espresso.

  7.    NOTE The most popular espresso based drink

HOW TO MAKE A MACCHIATO:
Meaning “marked” or “stained” in Italian.  Macchiato is an espresso with a dash of milk or dense froth added into the centre of the espresso.
Also like the cappuccino, the macchiato is almost the same as the espresso but with a couple of more touches.

Here are the basic steps:

  1. Get a proper espresso in a cappuccino cup.
  2. Insert the steam wand into a jug which should contain semi-skimmed milk.
  3. Keep the frother tip close to the top of the milk, inserted on an angle. This is very important! Your goal is to produce fine micro foam with a velvet-like texture.
  4. When frothed milk is about 60 degrees, you are ready to pour.
  5. Note than you must only pour 1/3 of the frothed milk compared to the 2/3 of espresso coffee.

HOW TO MAKE A LATTE:

  • Latte is basically an espresso with steamed milk with no froth
  • Get an espresso in a latte cup
  • Insert the steam wand into a jug which should contain same-skimmed milk.
  • Keep the frother tip inside the milk; this is very important because we have to warm the milk without creating any froth.
  • When the milk temperature reaches about 60 degrees, you are ready to pour.

NOTE: the latte cup should be 1/3 espresso, and 2/3 hot milk.
